Voice over internet protocol popularly known as VOIP is a rapidly growing telephony service. It is based on the concept of transmission of voice over internet. You all may have heard about Google talk, Skype etc. All these are a form of VOIP. Skype is a well known VOIP service through which you can make a call just as you do in a PSTN phone. I was very well versed with GTalk earlier but did not know how do I skype someone. I wasted a lot of money on my ISD calls. But when I came to know about skype and other VOIP service provider I swtched my telephony system to VOIP. Its very cost effective and you can call ISD at ver very nominal rates almost negligible as compared to PSTN phones. The quality of voice is also very very clear and without disturbances. The only requirement of VOIP is a broadband internet connection and a hearphone/earphone. If you want to use your basic PSTN to call you need to get a router for that. Vonage is a well known company for providing VOIP services and they provide all the necessary gadgets for it.
