Fifty million home-based businesses will be in operation by 1997, according to Link Resource’s National Work-at Home Survey. All around the country, people who want more control over their lives are starting home businesses In New Orleans, Rick Hart’s home based cajun Cargo ships seafood nation wide. In Palatine, Illinois, Stephaine Heavey works from home designing and selling original patterns for fabric dolls. And in Dallas, Lisa McElya published the Dallas Party & Event Planners Guidebook from the entire first floor of her two-story home. These three people are living the new American dream of owning a business, but avoiding the high overhead and start-up costs of a commercial location. If the idea of working from home is appealing, but you don’t know where to begin, here is a step-by-step guide. STEP #1 DECIDE WHAT PART OF THE HOUSE TO USE Select an area away from family activity. The perfect space is a separate room (or perhaps the garage), but any area will do, if it can hold all the business supplies and equipment, and also provide enough work space for desks, tables, or counters. STEP #2 DETERMINE HOW MUCH TIME YOU CAN SPEND ON THE BUSINESS Many people start a home business on a part-time basis while raising children or working outside the home. Others start full-time when family and finances allow. However you begin, figure out how may hours per week you can devote to the business Make a weekly chart of your activities, examine it, and determine where the business fits. Don’t assume you have time and find out later you don’t. STEP #3 DECIDE ON THE TYPE OF BUSINESS Make a list of things you like to do, your work and volunteer experience, and items you own that can be used in a business. Look over this line-up, and using ideas from it, list possible businesses to start. Eliminate any business that isn’t appealing or doesn’t fill a need people have. For ideas on different types of businesses, consult the end of this article. Other ideas can be found in the source material listed at the end of this article. STEP #4 CHOOSE A LEGAL FORM The three basic legal forms are sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. The most common is the sole proprietorship. As its name implies, a sole proprietorship is owned by one individual. It is the oldest form of business, the easiest to start, and the least complicated to dissolve. Here are some of the advantages of this business form: 1. You own all the profits

2. Your business is easy and cheap to organize. You don’t need any government approval, although you may be required to carry a city, state or county license. Your only other obligation is to notify the Internal revenue Service (IRS) for the purposes of sales tax.

3. You’re the boss

4. You enjoy certain tax savings. You must pay regular individual taxes on your income, property, and payroll, but these are not levied as special taxes, as with a corporation. You will also have to pay sales tax which you have received from your customers.

5. Greater personal incentive and satisfaction. Since you have your investment to lose if your business is not successful, you should be more willing to put time, thought, and energy into the business. And when your business is successful, you enjoy maximum sense of accomplishment since you know its success was dependent upon your decisions about your management ability alone. For more information about this and other forms of business, send for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Publication MP25. Selecting the Legal Structure for Your BUsiness (50 cents). It outlines the advantages and disadvantages of each legal type of structure. If after reading it you are still uncertain what form of the business should take, consult an attorney. STEP #5 DETERMINE WHERE THE MONEY WILL COME FROM There are three ways to finance start-up costs: use your own money, obtain a loan, or find investors. If possible, it is better to start small, use your savings, and not worry about repaying a debt. also keep in mind that since you are a home-based, chances of qualifying for a loan or finding investors are slim until the success of your idea is proven. STEP #6 GATHER INFORMATION Spend a few weeks researching home-based businesses. A library or bookstore can provide numerous books on business basics, and on the specific type of business that interest you. Homemade Money by Barbara Brabee (see sources) is an excellent book to start with. If you are considering a computer business, get in touch with the association of Electronics; Cottagers, P.O. Box 1738, Davis, CA 95617-1738. To keep informed of what is happening in home business world, contact National Home Business report, P.O. Box 2137, Naperville, IL 60566, for subscription information; and Mothers Home Business Network, P.O. Box 423, East Meadow, NY 11554 (send SASE for free information). STEP #7 CHECK ON ZONING RESTRICTIONS Find out how your property is zoned, the call City Hall and ask what regulations apply to home businesses in that zone. Also, if you rent or live in a condominium, check the lease or homeowner’s association rules to be certain a home business is allowed. Generally, if you do not annoy your neighbors with excess noise, odors, and traffic, you will not be deterred from running a business at home. The neighbors may not even be aware of the business, but it is necessary to know exactly what you can and can’t do before you start. This is important should any problems or questions arise later. STEP #8 PICK A BUSINESS NAME AND REGISTER IT If the business you choose is different form your name, file an assumed (or fictitious) name certificate with the county. You are notified if another business already has that name, so you can select a new one. Do this before investing in expensive stationery and brochures. It costs only a few dollars to file, and it protects the business name from being used by someone else in the county. STEP #9 WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN A good business plan clarifies your ideas and establishes a plan of action. A good business plan should include a description of what you are selling, your background and qualifications, who the prospective customers are and where they can be found, what is needed to build the business, how you plan to promote, and how much money is need for start-up costs. SBA Publication #M925, The Business Plan for Home-Based Business ($1) is helpful. STEP #10 GET AN IDENTIFYING NUMBER If you are the sole proprietor of the business and have no employees, you may either use your Social Security number or an Employee Identification Number (EIN) as the business number on official forms. If you have employees, or the business is set up as a partnership or corporation, you must obtain an EIN. To do this, complete IRS Form SS-4 (Application for Employer Identification Number) and file it with the nearest IRS Center. STEP #11 OBTAIN A SALES TAX PERMIT If the product or service you sell is taxable, you need a state sales tax permit. Call the local tax agency, explain the type of business you have and what you sell, and ask if you need to collect sales tax. If you do, they will send you the necessary information and forms to complete. You also use this tax number when your purchase items for resale. STEP #12 OBTAIN LICENSES & PERMITS It’s very important not to overlook any necessary license or permit. For example, some cities and counties require a general business license, and most have special laws regarding the preparation and sale of food. Call City Hall to find out what is need for your particular business. In addition, Chamber of Commerce provide information on city, county and state licenses and permits. STEP #13 SELECT BUSINESS CARDS, STATIONERY, BROCHURES Spend time on the color, design and paper for these items. They make a definite impression-good or bad- on the people who receive them. If you are not certain what is most suitable and effective, consult a graphics designer or a creative printer whose work you like. STEP #14 OPEN A BUSINESS CHECKING ACCOUNT Call several banks to find out what services they offer, and what minimum balance, if any, must be maintained to avoid paying a service charge. Also ask about credit card if you plan to offer this convenience to your customers. Bank fees can be significant, so shop around for the best deal. If your personal checking account is with a credit union, see if it can also provide a separate business account. when you open your account, you may need to show the assumed name certificate and business license. Finally, investigate obtaining a credit card in the business’s name. If this is not possible, set aside a personal credit card to use for business expenses. STEP #15 SET UP RECORD-KEEPING SYSTEMS Put together a simple and effective bookkeeping system with an 8 1/2 x 11″ three-ring binder, columnar pad sheets and twelve pocket dividers from the office supply store. For each month, set up columnar sheets for income and expenses. Use a pocket divider for each month’s receipts, bank statement, deposit tickets, and canceled checks. In addition, an automobile log for business mileage, and filing system for correspondence, invoices, supplier catalogs, client records, etc. are two other useful tools. For more information on record-keeping, see IRS publication #583, Information for Business taxpayers. STEP #16 CHECK IRS REQUIREMENTS If you comply with basic IRS guidelines, you can deduct a percentage of normal household expenses (mortgage, interest, taxes, insurance, utilities, repairs, etc.) as a business expense. see the box accompanying this article and, for more detailed information, IRS publication #587, Business Use of the Home. Also become familiar with these IRS forms: Schedule SE (compensation of Social Security Self-Employment Tax) and Schedule 1040 ES (estimated Tax for Individuals). Depending on circumstances, you may have to file them. STEP #17 OUTFIT THE BUSINESS Make a list of everything needed to start the business, but before you buy anything, look around the house for things you already own that are usable. When you are ready to start purchasing, check the classified ads and garage sales. Both are good, inexpensive sources for office furniture, typewriters, computers, answering machines, etc. But only what is absolutely necessary for start-up, and wait until the business is off the ground to get the extras. STEP #18 DECIDE ON TELEPHONE REQUIREMENTS Call the telephone company to find out the cost of a business phone in your area. If you cannot afford a separate business line, investigate the telephone company’s regulations on using your personal phone in a business. It may be possible to do this if you follow certain guidelines. Keep a record of long distance business calls as they are a deductible expense. Finally, consider the benefits of an answering machine to catch calls when you are out. STEP #19 CHECK OUT THE POST OFFICE & UPS Using a post office box as the business address down plays the fact you are home-based. It also prevents customers from dropping in at all hours. While looking into box rental, ask for information on the various postal rates, particularly bulk rate, if you plan to do large or specialized mailings. If you mail many packages, check out United Parcel Service (UPS), as it is less expensive than the Post Office. STEP #20 PURCHASE THE NECESSARY INSURANCE Check with your homeowners insurance agent about a rider for your existing policy or the need for a separate business policy. Also make sure you have adequate personal and product liability coverage. Shop around, as each company has different rules regarding home businesses To save money on medical insurance, join an association and participate in their group plan. One such body is The National association for the Self-Employed: they can be reached at 800-527-5504. STEP #21 ORGANIZE THE HOUSE & YOURSELF To have more time for business, organize and simplify household routines. Start by holding a garage sale to get rid of unnecessary possessions. Next, have a family conference and divide household duties, making sure each person does his or her part. The, set up a planning notebook to keep track of appointments, things to do, calls to make, errands to run, shopping, etc. Finally, set up a work schedule so you won’t get sidetracked by TV, neighbor’s visits, snacking, and telephone calls. Creating and operating a home business is a wonderful and rewarding challenge. The satisfaction is not only in the money earned, but in doing what makes you happy.

If you want to lower maintenance requirements, as well as keeping your fish healthy and your water clear and beautiful, accentuating the ambiance of your home, then pick the perfect filtration system for your fish tank. Make it simple. Consider the specific requirements to best suit the needs of your fish. You have to take into account that the water volume and shape of your fish tank, the kind of fish you keep, as well as the exact amount of food your fish will need all factor in to the equation.

Without a proper fish tank filtration system for your fish tank, your will die from the toxins that build up in the fish tank when there is an absence of proper filtration. There are biological, chemical, as well as mechanical kinds of fish tank filtration systems available on the market today. This article will explain in more detail the differences between biological fish tank filtration systems, chemical fish tank filtration systems, and mechanical fish tank filtration systems.

Having the very best fish tank filtration systems are essential for you, especially considering that if you choose the right one, it will require the simplest maintenance possible. In addition, the proper fish tank filtration system will ensure the health and beauty of your fish tank. Indoor fish tanks are a great idea for your virtually any home décor. But if you decide to keep decorative, pet fish, you need to choose the very best filtration system – one that will best suit your specific, individual needs.

Biological fish tank filtration systems are virtually always crucial. Nonetheless, the other two fish tank filtration systems (which I will discuss later on) are good options in several cases as well. The excreted waste of our fish is expelled into the water, and will then become poisonous to the fish. To battle this toxic condition, a biological fish tank filtration system will transform the bacterium in this waste, and other particles. A biological fish tank filtration system will turn these kinds of toxicity into a relatively harmless chemical: nitrate.

Nitrate actually encourages the growth of algae in your fish tank. Some fish feed on this kind of algae – but usually not enough, they do not consume all of it, and some consume none. Nevertheless, you will (from time to time) have to scrub your fish tank clean of the buildup of algae. If you cycle your fish tank using a biological fish tank filtration system, you can certainly create a biological environment. When you have already designed a specific biological habitat, and if you purchase a new biological filtration system, your fishes etc. will not have to adjust.

With a new biological fish tank filtration system in your old biological fish tank, the underwater environment will not (or, at least, with high quality equipment it should not) change at all. Instead, it will simply become a fish tank now maintained by a higher quality fish tank filtration system. It is a win-win-win situation when you purchase a higher quality fish tank filtration system. It is better for you, better for your fish, and even better for your home décor!

There are, however, two additional options the first of which I will discuss is a chemical fish tank filtration system. Many people choose chemical fish tank filtration systems for their fish tanks, indoor reflecting pools, and more. Chemical fish tank filtration systems are virtually always designed to use carbon or chemical resins to remove any toxicity from the water.

These fish tank filtration systems are aggressive in their objective to remove toxins. They continue to do so until they become saturated with these poisonous elements. As long as the toxic chemicals are not gumming up the filter or hurting your fish this kind of fish tank filtration system is a great idea! Of course, chemical fish tank filtration systems will need to be regularly emptied, cleaned and /or otherwise properly maintained.

The last of the fish tank filtration systems I will mention is the mechanical fish tank filtration system. This filter is a system designed to simply push water through a kind of filtration strainer. The strainer, as with any mechanical fish tank filtration system must be cleaned on a semi-regular basis. If you do not remember to change or clean out the filter of your mechanical fish tank filtration system when the water becomes dirtier, it will, of course, be dangerous for your fish.

The most common kinds of filter equipment for mechanical fish tank filtration systems are items such as filter floss, filter pads, sponges, and in some cases even gravel. From the very popular goldfish, to koi, to a wide variety of tropical, saltwater fish, and much, much more to choose from, there are certain kinds of pumps that will be the perfect solution. All you have to do is be sure you pick the right one. No matter what kind of fish you choose, a great fish filtration system will be absolutely necessary.

Many families across the country own at least one pet. Regardless of what type of pet it is the pet in a way becomes a member of the family. There are some families that take extra care of their pets with pampering them with pet gifts or pet supplies. Pet owners have a number of options when it comes to buying pet supplies.

Perhaps the most common way that a pet owner purchases pet supplies for their family pet is by visiting their local pet store. Most cities in America have a pet store and large cities may even be home to multiple pet stores. One of the reasons why pet stores are so popular is because a shopper can physically examine each item before purchasing it. This gives many pet owners the opportunity to study the quality of an item before bringing it into their home.

While storefront pet stores are a great place to purchase pet supplies there is another option that may be more convenient for many pet owners. Online pet stores are similar to storefront locations; however, they do not require leaving home. There are millions of Americans who currently purchase their pet supplies over the internet and there is absolutely no reason why more shouldn’t be because purchasing pet supplies online has an unlimited number of benefits.

As previously mentioned online shoppers looking to purchase pet supplies do not have to leave their home if they are shopping at an online pet store. Purchasing pet supplies online is all about convenience. Pet owners can purchase their much needed pet supplies all in a matter of minutes. This option is very convenient for pet owners or families who may not have the time to regularly visit a pet store.

In addition to convenience, purchasing pet supplies online can also save pet owners money. America has recently been experiencing a major problem with the increase in gasoline prices. Many shoppers are finding it to expensive to drive to their local pet store. This problem is being especially felt in country areas where a large number of pet owners are located. Many cities have a pet store; however, not all towns do. This may mean that a pet owner living in a rural area could be driving a half an hour or more to their local pet store which could cost a decent amount of money in gasoline.

Online shoppers will have to pay shipping costs on the pet supplies that they purchase. This shipping cost can easily be lower than the cost of gas for a trip to a pet store. There are many shoppers who are successful at finding online pet stores who offer free shipping or reduced price shipping on all of their pet supplies. This would make online shopping for pet supplies even more beneficial.

Perhaps one of the greatest benefits to purchasing pet supplies online is the selection of products available. Most retail stores are limited on the amount of floor space that they have which limits the amount of product that they can carry. Online pet stores do not have the same problem because they do not have to physically display all of the pet supplies that they are selling. Most pet owners find it easier to purchase pet supplies online especially when looking for hard to find products.

Of course pet owners can shop wherever they want to; however, pet owners are encouraged to at least give online shopping a try. The selection of pet supplies that can be purchased online for a low cost is amazing and to top it off those items can be delivered directly to your door.

Are you taking it up to the next level – are you moving beyond house bowling balls in favor of your own, custom bowling ball? Well, before you go out and make the all-important choice as to which bowling ball you should get, you need to consider a few things:

· It is best to have at least two bowling balls – one for oily lanes and one for dry lanes. And you want a strike ball — one with a lot of hook potential and power — and a spare ball, a ball that will roll straight and true.

· Make sure you pick out the right weight – bowling balls range from 6 pounds to 16 pounds. When you have a bowling ball that fits your hand, you can actually use a heavier ball than whatever house bowling ball you were used to using.

· Make sure that you get a bowling ball that fits – get the finger holes custom drilled to fit your hand.

· In general, the more expensive the ball, the better the ball! Of course, that being said, this is genearlly just in terms of price ranges. For instance, a ball that falls in the $100-200 price range most likely will not be as good as a ball that is in the $200+ range. Of course, within those ranges, some bowling balls are definitely better deals than others! And you want to be sure that you are not paying extra money for something that you do not care about (like a glow in the dark ball, for instance).

· Before up and buying your first bowling balls, make sure that you spend the time to carefully decide what material you want your bowling balls made out of.

While bowling balls have been made out of rubber and even wood in the past, today’s bowling balls are made from different materials:

· Plastic bowling balls – this is generally the most inexpensive type of bowling ball, and it is actually usually made out of polyester. If you are used to using house balls, then you are used to using plastic balls. They are very durable. They also skid more (making them harder to control) and are less likely to hook – they are good for dry lane conditions.

· Urethane bowling balls – these balls have softer coverstocks that give the balls more hook potential. These bowling balls can hook more because they have a higher friction surface than your basic polyester balls. To increase or decrease the amount of hook potential, you can sand or buff the ball.

· Reactive resin bowling balls – these are a relatively new type of bowling ball. Only in the 1990s did bowling ball manufacturers started to add resin particles to the urethane coverstocks. What did this resin do? Well, resin is sticky/tacky, and therefore increases the ball’s grip on the lane. It made the balls have even more hook potential. Reactive resin bowling balls skid on oil (giving them great speed) and hook strongly on dry boards. Experienced players can make reactive resin bowling balls work for them with many different lane conditions.

· Particle bowling balls – this type of bowling ball is perfect for anyone (especially experienced bowlers) who want great power potential in their balls. These bowling balls have textured particles like glass and ceramics to resin enhanced balls. This texture give the ball a whole lot of grip in oil, a controllable hook style, and a whole lot of power. Particle bowling balls generally have the greatest hook potential of any balls. Many professional bowlers use particle bowling balls – they like how controllable they are in terms of hook and spin.

The present structure of Internet marketing is now one of the better if not the best structures among all existing investments. There are additional elements that are now considered to be the “ultimate lifeline” of the online business industry.

o THE FOUNDER- you are one of the important elements of an Internet marketing structure. The business will not be successful if you will not stand up and lead your business to the right path. Remember that the Internet has its own “dungeons”–and it is where you need to shine and break the darkness to become successful on your Internet marketing career.

o THE PRODUCT- if you do not have a product to sell, do you think you will be able to grab a slice of the Internet marketing revenue pie?

Structure is an integral part of their being–without it, their being and purpose is not complete.

If you think that the structure is just for physical attributes alone, then you need to think again.

As a matter of fact, abstract things also need structure in order to survive. And Internet marketing does need a specific structure.

In what way? Why is important to get the structure right?

Once the brand is consistently patronized by the people, you will be able to achieve success and your products will certainly have an edge over unbranded products. This will influence the way they patronize your products or services that may even result in the expansion of your clientele base.

There exist wide range of advertising-related and consultancy services based on market conditions, advance sales strategies, and popular culture. As previously mentioned, you do not need to secure necessary permits from city or state governments or find premises for your business. It was a simple idea.

Some merchants run their own affiliate programs while others use third party services provided by intermediaries to track traffic or sales that are referred from affiliates.

It is irrelevant (for the compensation) how often an Ad is displayed.

If you have your mailing list, you must have an auto responder service. If you don’t yet you will soon, it’s part of internet marketing. Some advertisers however did and still do embrace this behaviour of their affiliates and allow them, even encourage them, to bid on any term they like, including the advertisers trademarks.

Depending on the kind of Internet marketing business you are into as well as your subscriber’s level of interest, the appropriate volume for you could be weekly or monthly. SEO, or the search engine optimization, is a proven online advertising method, and presently in-demand. The choice is yours to make.

It is an online-based exchange agency that serves as an intermediary between buyers and sellers in making business transactions (particularly business-to-business transactions, hence the term B2B applies).

All other effective strategies will come in line as long as you stick to the basic yet the best strategies in your Internet marketing venture. Remember that your ultimate goal is to be a successful Internet marketer who continues to generate revenues on an upscale. Many affiliate programs were poorly managed. But don’t let that worry you because with time vendors are getting better.

Once the selected brand name is still available, It is a unique system that allows you to collect commissions on your own sales as well as individuals you recruited. Those are the key features that you need to watch out when deciding on which Internet marketing business you will engage into.

Advertising your products or services for sale through the Internet is relatively cheaper than advertising through local newspapers and large billboards. Develop you own product. Or better still you can JV with an established vendor and collect regular commission cheques by promoting their products. One popular method is Pay Per Click search engine traffic. Fly fishing being regarded a normal fishing sport in the whole of America, more and more angler (s) all over are showing interest in various fly fishing resources, including tips, techniques and tales from ones who have mastered the art with their lures and fishing baits. Most anglers interested in fly fishing sports intend to know and follow a ‘step-by-step” method that will significantly increase their casting distance. Most of them want to learn quickly how to cast more accurately, so that they can drop their fly right in front of the fish’s mouth. That is not all. Even a good fly caster may be looking to go to the next level and learn more of the advanced casting techniques. To assure an angler interested in fly fishing, it must be mentioned here that with the right instructor, you don’t have to worry about stiff breezes or feel intimidated by other fly anglers on the river. There may be an umpteen number of questions that you would like you ask regarding your dealing with the fly cast, typically if you are an angler new to the sport of fly fishing, one who finds making a decent cast difficult at best.

However, it still remains true today that despite the importance of the cast, the average fly-fisher angler gives less thought to it than to purchasing new fishing bait (s) for himself. Probably, many of them think fly-fishers need no casting instruction at all. Confining themselves to the easiest fisheries, and doing almost everything wrong and still catching a dozen trout from a small stream makes them over-confident of their fishing capabilities. But one must remember here that fly fishing in a small local lake is quite different from doing it in a spring creek, just as catching a thousand bluegills with your fishing bait on a blind cast is a hell lot different from successfully sight fishing for bonefish. For this, the answer is: practice for days, months and years. For fly fishing is like another skilful sport that can be mastered with a lot of time, and of course, a hell lot of effort on your part. If an angler fly fishes long enough and truly embraces the challenge of the sport rather than the fantasy of the game, he will eventually find himself amidst a favorable situation for fly fishing.

Fly casting is the most important skill in fly-fishing. It is perhaps the only skill you cannot do without. As a matter-of-fact, a successful fly-fisher angler need not know how to dress flies, tie knots, rig equipment, or even how to find fish, as he can always hire a guide to take care of all that. But a successful fly-fisher must be able to present a fly to a fish. However, it is a startling fact that in spite of its importance, relatively a very few fly-fishers ever attempt to learn how to cast a fly rod in a formal or methodical way. The beginning of learning how to fly cast is even more important than choosing your lures and fishing bait (s). The best way to accomplish this, according to experts is to use an 8.5 or 9-foot rod that is balanced with a 5- or 6-weight floating weight-forward or triangle taper fly line. According to experts in fly fishing, the fly line should be rigged with a 9-foot tapered monofilament leader, to the end of which is tied a small tuft of fluorescent package yarn. While fly casting, anglers may wish to use a bit heavier outfit, such as an 8- or 9-weight rod, to allow them handle a longer line a bit easier.

As for the important fly fishing kits for an angler, it is recommended that you are equipped with the proper trolling flies, trolling fly kits, jigs and fishing bait used to catch Salmon and Trout or other fish in the Great Lakes or Ocean. Custom fishing rods, including custom casting, spincast, and fly rods act as other necessary equipment in fly fishing sports. All these Fly fishing equipment are there for use to make your fly tying and fishing vacations memorable!

The thought of writing a resume intimidates almost anyone. It’s difficult to know where to start or what to include. It can seem like an insurmountable task. Here are 15 tips to help you not only tackle the task, but also write a winning resume.

1. Determine your job search objective prior to writing the resume. Once you have determined your objective, you can structure the content of your resume around that objective. Think of your objective as the bull’s-eye to focus your resume on hitting. If you write your resume without having a clear objective in mind, it will likely come across as unfocused to those that read it. Take the time before you start your resume to form a clear objective.

2. Think of your resume as a marketing tool. Think of yourself as a product, potential employers as your customers, and your resume as a brochure about you. Market yourself through your resume. What are your features and benefits? What makes you unique? Make sure to convey this information in your resume.

3. Use your resume to obtain an interview, not a job. You don’t need to go into detail about every accomplishment. Strive to be clear and concise. The purpose of your resume is to generate enough interest in you to have an employer contact you for an interview. Use the interview to provide a more detailed explanation of your accomplishments and to land a job offer.

4. Use bulleted sentences. In the body of your resume, use bullets with short sentences rather than lengthy paragraphs. Resumes are read quickly. This bulleted sentence format makes it easier for someone to quickly scan your resume and still absorb it.

5. Use action words. Action words cause your resume to pop. To add life to your resume, use bulleted sentences that begin with action words like prepared, developed, monitored, and presented.

6. Use #’s, $’s and %’s. Numbers, dollars, and percentages stand out in the body of a resume. Use them. Here are two examples:

  • Managed a department of 10 with a budget of $1,000,000.
  • Increased sales by 25% in a 15-state territory.

7. Lead with your strengths. Since resumes are typically reviewed in 30 seconds, take the time to determine which bullets most strongly support your job search objective. Put those strong points first where they are more apt to be read.

8. Play Match Game. Review want ads for positions that interest you. Use the key words listed in these ads to match them to bullets in your resume. If you have missed any key words, add them to your resume.

9. Use buzzwords. If there are terms that show your competence in a particular field, use them in your resume. For marketing people, use “competitive analysis.” For accounting types, use “reconciled accounts.”

10. Accent the positive. Leave off negatives and irrelevant points. If you feel your date of graduation will subject you to age discrimination, leave the date off your resume. If you do some duties in your current job that don’t support your job search objective, leave them off your resume. Focus on the duties that do support your objective. Leave off irrelevant personal information like your height and weight.

11. Show what you know. Rather than going into depth in one area, use your resume to highlight your breadth of knowledge. Use an interview to provide more detail.

12. Show who you know. If you have reported to someone important such as a vice president or department manager, say so in your resume. Having reported to someone important causes the reader to infer that you are important.

13. Construct your resume to read easily. Leave white space. Use a font size no smaller than 10 point. Limit the length of your resume to 1-2 pages. Remember, resumes are reviewed quickly. Help the reader to scan your resume efficiently and effectively.

14. Have someone else review your resume. Since you are so close to your situation, it can be difficult for you to hit all your high points and clearly convey all your accomplishments. Have someone review your job search objective, your resume, and listings of positions that interest you. Encourage them to ask questions. Their questions can help you to discover items you inadvertently left off your resume. Revise your resume to include these items. Their questions can also point to items on your resume that are confusing to the reader. Clarify your resume based on this input.

15. Submit your resume to potential employers. Have the courage to submit your resume. Think of it as a game where your odds of winning increase with every resume you submit. You really do increase your odds with every resume you submit. Use a three-tiered approach. Apply for some jobs that appear to be beneath you. Perhaps they will turn out to be more than they appeared to be once you interview for them. Or perhaps once you have your foot in the door you can learn of other opportunities. Apply for jobs that seem to be just at your level. You will get interviews for some of those jobs. See how each job stacks up. Try for some jobs that seem like a stretch. That’s how you grow — by taking risks. Don’t rule yourself out. Trust the process. Good luck in your job search!

Value Education is the much debated and discussed subject in the plethora of education in India. Of course it is true that the main purpose of any education will go with Value orientation. More concentration on Value education has been given at the primary and secondary level of school education than in higher education in India. Values could be effectively imparted to the young minds rather than to the matured ones. It may be the important reason for this prime importance given at the school level. There are so many modules designed with the help of agencies like NCERT and others for effectively imparting the value education to the school students. In this context, many innovative educational practices are being identified by the experts. Good number of experiments and studies are being conducted in the recent days on the effectiveness of teaching value education at school level. Some schools have very innovative and radical course designs to impart the values.

Effective teaching practices in imparting value education ranges from story telling, exhibitions, skits, one act play and group discussions to various other formats. New methods have been evolved by educationists to create an effective learning sphere. The usage of electronic gadgets also gains importance in the teaching-learning practices of value education. But at the higher education level, due to various reasons, the importance given to value education is not as much as it is given at the school level. The curriculum and the teaching methods also could be subjected to scrutiny. It is true that colleges are meant for a kind of specialization in some field of education. But in the Indian social context, the youth require direction and counseling at this stage. They have been exposed to various challenges at this stage which demands the intervention of educationists for his/her betterment. His/her character building also strengthens at this juncture. Students’ perception on various life factors and events are getting shaped at this stage. On the whole they evolve their own philosophy of life. Their sensitivity and knowledge are getting direction at this stage. Hence, an effective value orientation becomes inevitable to the students of colleges. Keeping this requirement in mind, States like Tamilnadu introduced a compulsory paper/course on value education to undergraduate students of all colleges in the State under the choice based credit system. Though this kind of effort is made with the good intention of imparting values to the youth, many limitations in bringing out the expected outcome could be identified.

The problem mainly begins with the definition of values. Defining the term ‘value’ poses a challenge to all scholars. The term value is loaded with varieties of meaning. Each meaning reflects its own philosophical position. Generally the term value is spontaneously associated with religious values. It is believed by many Indians that values are nothing but the religious and spiritual guiding principles of life. Hence, it is supposed that the path is already been laid for the life journey. But in the context of modernity and modernism there rises a fundamental question of whether value education is required at all in a modern state. There are those who argue that modern life is based on science and technology, and both are value neutral. They view that the values are bugbear held out by people living in the past, glued to outdated religious principles that have no relevance to the 21st century. At this point, there is also another group of modernist who propagate the necessity of value education at learning centres in order to safe guard the democratic state and its values. The values they wish to cultivate are modern secular values such as honesty, respect to other, equality, collectivity, democracy, respecting the human rights, sharing equal space in the public sphere and so on. These values are considered as the products of enlightenment period. Hence, four positions could be arrived at on the basis of the above understanding. The are:

1. There are religious values which are very much essential for every one and must be included in the curriculum.

2. The religious values should not find place in the educational system. They may operate at the private sphere.

3. There are non-religious secular values and they must find space in the education.

4. There is no need for teaching value education in the academics because they cannot be cultivated through formal learning and such value cultivation will make the individual biased.

In consequence to these positions, following questions arouse.

1. Whether value education should find place in the educational system?

2. If it is required, then what sort of values should be given preference in the curriculum?

3. What is the importance to be given to the religious values which are primarily developed on the basis of scriptures?

4. Can modern values alone are sufficient enough or is there any possibility of blending the values of modernity with religious values?

5. If religious values are to be given importance in the curriculum, which religion will find prime place? If there are contradictory propagation on a single virtue by two religions, then how are they to be handled?

6. Similarly religions differ on the practices also. Right from eating patterns, dress mode, marriage systems, war tactics, killing, punishments to various other aspects, religions differ on their outlook. In this situation, what sort of perceptions need to be taught?

Besides these questions, another billion dollar question would be raised on the methodology of effectively imparting those values. Then again as it is mentioned earlier, the school education can very well include this education easily because the system itself is advantageous for it to accommodate. But at the college level, the system finds it very difficult to work out. So this study could analyse the theoretical problems relating to the identification of values to be included in the curriculum at the one side and the problem of effective designing of the curriculum and imparting those values on the other side.

II

The necessity for imparting values to the students of all levels has been felt by everyone. The world today is facing unprecedented socio-political and economic challenges. Problems of life are becoming increasingly intense and complex. Traditional values are decentered. ‘An environment of strife pervades all countries and broken homes have become common. An insatiable hunger for money and power, leads most of people to tension and absence of peace of mind and all kinds of physical and mental ailments have become common place” 1. In the present day context of frequent and often violent social upheavals, we have to look at the problem of restlessness of the youth, their frustration born out of futility of their search for meaning of life and the purpose for which they are living, often leading to evil and wickedness. This calls for a new approach to, and a new vision of education. It is obviously felt that the present educational system promotes rat race and keep the student community in a sense of insecurity. Educational institutions have become the pressure cookers building pressures in the minds of youth. Also a loft sided educational pattern which insists on instrumental and technical rationality for the successful life in terms of gaining money and power has invaded the educational system of India. The person who is deemed to be unfit for this survival race becomes disqualified and ineligible to live in this market economy based life. The spate of industrialization and economic growth in developed nations has brought about a perceptible change in this scenario. And developing countries including India are feeling the ripple effects of this development. Values earlier considered essential by all societies have been eroded and have given way to unethical practices around the globe. Where honesty and integrity were loved and appreciated, greed, corruption and red tapism have come in, bringing in their wake, unethical responses which have pervaded all walks of life and are thwarting efforts of a few enlightened individuals to promote value based society.2 Hence, implementation of well structured education is the only solution available with all states. With growing divisive forces, narrow parochialism, separatist tendencies on the one hand and considerable fall in moral, social, ethical and national values both in personal and public life on the other, the need for promoting effective programmes of value orientation in education has assumed great urgency. Development of human values through education is now routinely seen as a task of national importance. Value education though supposes to be the part and parcel of the regular education, due to the market influences, it could not be so. Hence, it has become an inevitable need to include an exclusive curriculum for value education at all levels.

Now the next question would be about the nature of value education. What sort of values should be given preference in the curriculum is the prime problem in the introduction of value education. This problem surfaces because we can find varieties of values prescribed on the basis of various scriptures and theories. Sometimes they are contradictory to each other. This issue has been thoroughly discussed earlier. But the solution to the problem of the nature of value education is primarily dependent on the social conditions that prevail in the state. There need not be an imported value educational pattern to be prescribed in India. The burning social issues would demand the required value education. Though India is considered to be the land of divinity and wisdom, the modern value system throws challenges to the ancient value pattern. Right from the Gurkula pattern to the varna ashrama values, all values are under scrutiny by modern rationality. Hence, the relevance of the golden values prescribed by the then society is questionable in the present situation. On the other hand, the so called modern values which have been listed earlier also subjected to criticism by philosophers like post modernists. They question the very nature of the rationality of the enlightenment period. Because critics of modernity strongly declare that the modern rationality is the reason for the deterioration of human concern in the world and they paved the way for inhuman killing and escalation of values. The reason of the modernism is considered as the root of power politics which leads to inhuman behaviour of the power system, according to them. Hence the modern values like democracy, civil rights, environmental ethics, professional ethics, discipline and all such values are found useless in bringing harmony in the society. The values like discipline, tolerance, peace bears the negative connotation in this context. Hence, what sort of modern values are to be included in the curriculum is a challenge thrown towards the educationists. At one side the fanatic and fundamentalist features of religious values and on the other side the modern values based on the market economy and other factors are to be excluded and a well balanced curriculum with genuine worthy values suitable to the society has to be identified and included in the educational system. In this context, it becomes obvious that there cannot be any universal pattern of values to be prescribed in the system. When a suitable blend of religious and modern values is to be done, the designing of such course demands an unbiased, scrupulous, intelligent approach on the part of the academician who designs such course. Thus the spiritual values of sensitizing the youth for happy world and rational values for a just world are very much required. Religious values can be taken but not with the label of any particular religion, democratic values are to be included but not with its dogmatic inhuman approach. Thus there need a perfect blend of both. This is the real challenge thrown to the Indian academicians.

After the identification of these values, they need to be inculcated not to be informed to the students. Mostly listing the values is done very easily, but imparting them effectively requires genuine spirit and innovative educational practices. In the Vedic period, the gurukula system prevailed in which the student has to thoroughly undergo a pattern life with the guru shishya hierarchy. Whatever the guru declares are the values of life. But in the modern context, which is supposed to be the democratic sphere, a sense of equality and freedom has to prevail the learning situation. Also the values identified cannot be preached on the basis of the religious faiths. So the teacher has to find effective working module to internalize the values in the minds of the youth. The teachers’ understanding about the values prescribed and his/her commitment in imparting them also play a crucial role here. How to sensitize the teacher before carrying the values to the students is also a challenge to the educationists. The value education class room, if it is dealt with full seriousness and sincerity would be very interesting and challenging sphere for students and teachers. At times they need to sail at the same level with the students. The hierarchy may get disappeared. Value education demands a total responsibility from the teachers. They become more accountable. On the other side, a teacher who is committed to a set of values would always like to preach and impose them on the young minds. That extreme should also to be avoided with a balance of mind. Value education cannot be done by just delivering lectures and screening films. It requires a strong interaction between the students and the society. A lot could be experimented at this sphere. For which the supreme value ‘integrity’ is expected from the educator.

It is observed that many modules of teaching values have been designed and tested. Some are seemed to be very effective. In Tamilnadu, especially in aided colleges, with all good intention the government has introduced the value education as a compulsory scheme at the undergraduate level. But each university has its own syllabus for the same. The scrutiny of those syllabi also reveals a lot of variations in conceiving the value education. In some universities, some religion based institutions are given the responsibility of designing and even carrying out the course. Similarly the teachers who have not been exposed to any such type of training in value education are given the responsibility of teaching values. The introduction of value education for all under graduate courses is done at the cost of a core paper of that course. The teachers who have been handling their hardcore subject papers had to meet the shortage of workload due to this programme and to solve this problem, they have been entrusted with the job of teaching value education paper. This is done with the aim of avoiding the workload problem of existing teachers. The most valuable and sensitive part of education has been made like a mechanical dogmatic part. At this juncture, the fate of value education at the college level could be imagined. How to solve this issue is again a challenge to the educationists of Tamilnadu. The same fate could be observed in many other states of India. Hence, two important problems surfaces here, one at the syllabus level and the other at the teaching level. As it is discussed earlier the syllabus could be designed by way of paying attention to all aspects but imparting the same requires not only innovative teaching methods, but also innovative training method of the educators. It is as good as training the driver to drive the car; the teacher needs to be trained in imparting the values. The technical education employs teachers with sound knowledge in the subject, similarly it is essential to have teachers with sound mind and creative teaching skill to teach value education. Value education is definitely not to be dealt with compartmentalization but it should be taken as a part of the whole educational system. As Nietzsche puts it, the society requires masters to create and impart values, not the slaves who accept all the values imposed on them without any critical understanding.

If education fails to impart necessary values to its citizens, it will definitely have a telling effect on the society. All efforts to bring just and peace in the world will become futile if proper value education is not imparted.

You will be confined to only adding your information into a specific format. If you are a high school senior or junior making decisions about the college you will attend and your goal is to graduate with a good job, you should think about a few issues that are seldom discussed. Since the cumulative effect of your choices can greatly impact the number of employers that will want to interview you in your senior year of college, wise students carefully think about each decision.

When evaluating colleges, most students and parents consider factors such as:

- Accreditation

- Admission Requirements

- Grant/Scholarship Money

- Tuition, Room & Board

- Size, Location and Environment

- Distance from Home

- Safety and Security

- Class Size

- Dorms

- Medical Facilities

- Campus Activities, Entertainment & Sports

- Gut Feelings

Although those college selection factors are important, there are other considerations that should also be evaluated. Here are a few things that may affect your chances for finding a good job when you graduate.

Reputation Of The College- Students should apply to the best colleges they can afford, colleges with a good reputation in their field of interest. A good college reputation will help when you begin to look for a job. Even if you are still uncertain about your major, keep in mind that nationally known and respected colleges tend to be more attractive to many employers. You will have to decide whether graduating from a college that is highly respected in your field, is worth the financial sacrifice.

Questions: Is there a two-year or lower cost four-year college that you can attend for the first two years and then transfer to a better college? Have you considered working full time and attending college at night or on weekends, as a way to afford a college with a good reputation in your area of interest?

Job Search Preparation and Employment Assistance – There will be great variations in the quality and quantity of people, training and services that colleges provide to students in the critical areas of job search preparation and employment. Some colleges recognize the importance of job search preparation, accomplishments and work experience. Other colleges don’t even help very much with the senior year job search.

Since your goal is to graduate from college with a good job, a great deal of weight should be given to colleges that aggressively support and encourage each student’s job search preparation efforts through ongoing training, coaching and job identification. A short meeting with someone in Career Services in the senior year of college is totally inadequate for any student who hopes to land a good job.

Questions: How many people work in the Career Services Office, as compared to the total number of students? Does the freshman orientation program emphasize preparation and planning for the end goal? Does the college recognize that preparation for the senior year job search starts in the freshman year and continues throughout the college experience? How much job search training and personal attention will students receive each year? How many employers visited the campus last year to recruit students in your specific field of study? How does the college help seniors find jobs in their own field? Have the college leaders created a campus culture that truly helps students find good jobs? Does the college maintain a close relationship with alumni who can help students find good jobs? Do your professors and instructors serve as consultants to employers or belong to associations in your field? Do they introduce students to their industry contacts?

Active Student Participation – Employers love students who can present them with a list of significant accomplishments. Getting involved with on-campus and off-campus activities is a good way to demonstrate student capabilities and successes.

Questions: Does the college and the local area offer students a wide array of opportunities to participate in campus, community, work and leisure activities where students can accumulate a list of successes and impressive accomplishments? Will the student take advantage of these opportunities to work and participate?

Your College Major – Not all college majors lead to good jobs. However, most students will do better when they select something they do well at and enjoy. Therefore, students should do some research and identify colleges that have a good reputation in their field of interest.

Even though a college has a good overall reputation and offers 60 – 80 different majors, not every major offered is of the same quality or has the same reputation among employers. When a college has a great reputation in a given field, more employers will seek out, interview and hire students from that college. Wise students take the time to find out which colleges have the best reputation in their field of interest before they make their final college selection.

Questions: Does you college major lead to a good job? With the major you’ve selected, what kind of jobs are you most likely to obtain when you graduate? Which employers offer those jobs? What do those employers want and expect from students interviewing for those jobs? What should you do during the college years to get prepared for those jobs and those interviews?

Your College Minor – Many students don’t give much thought to their college minor. However, it is important for students to select a minor that will support or compliment their college major. When a minor is directly aligned with their major, it tends to strengthen a student’s expertise, especially in technical areas. Some students choose a business minor, recognizing that there is a business component to every field. All businesses need people who have technical expertise in that field, but can also run the business as managers and hold positions in sales, marketing, customer service and human resources, etc.

Questions: Which college minors will best support and compliment the selected major? Would it make sense to minor in business so as to open a broader array of employment opportunities in the field of interest?

Feeling comfortable with your field of study is extremely important. However, graduating with a good job is also important. That’s why savvy students think about each college selection factor and concern from an employment point of view. Why not select a college that will help you find a good job?

Seasonal Prices:

The highest rates for New Zealand are in the summer months from December until the end of February, during this period cars must be booked well in advance or you will have little chance of getting one when you turn up.

November and March are almost as busy, because the weather is still good but the prices are cheaper. Booking is advised.

October and April are a bit cheaper again and during these months you may be able to arrive in New Zealand and pick up a cheap rental car or relocation deal.

May to the end of September is the quietest as this is winter and a bit chilly with a good ski season. Booking is not really needed during this time and you will be able to phone around to pick up good deals including good relocation deals.

A relocation deal is where you could pick up a car in one city and drop it in another for a minimum charge.

Extra Km Charges:

Almost all of New Zealand car rental companies do not charge for kms on top of their daily hire cost. The exception to this rule is if you wish to hire a car for less than the rental companies minimum daily hire time.

Car rental companies sometimes have a km charge for diesel tax, which is a government cost to all owners of diesel vehicles. Most companies will include this in their daily rental cost.

What is one day of Rental?

Most rental companies charge per day you have the vehicle eg, a rental from 11am Friday to 11am Saturday is a 2-day rental. This is because the vehicle cannot be rented out to anybody else on either of these 2 days. To make the most of this rule pick the vehicle up on the morning of the first day and drop it off at the end of the second day.

You will still find some rental companies that treat this situation as 1 day but have penalty charges if you are late for any reason.

Diesel Tax:

This is a government tax and is not made up. But this is another way companies can make some extra money because there will be a “mark up” on the government cost.

GST (Goods and Services Tax):

This is a 12½% government tax on items brought in New Zealand. This should be included in all company advertised prices.

Airport Transfers:

Car rental companies will sometimes include free airport transfers, some only supply or pay for transport to pick up your car. If you are hiring a budget car you may have to pay for your transfers.

Windscreen, Tyre and Headlight Insurance:

The way that rental car companies handle this area can vary. Some don’t cover damage to these things at all, which means you the traveller has to pay for any damage. Some car rental companies charge extra to insure against damage. Some car rental companies include it in their excess/bond reduction options. Whatever they do we would suggest you cover yourself against damage to these items. New Zealand has many stone chip roads with trucks that can and do throw up stones. The insurance also covers tyre damage. Windscreens can range from $300 upwards

To fix Stone chips companies charge from $30 upwards per chip

Tyre’s can range from $100 upwards

All of the above estimates depend on the type of car.

Bond/Excess:

All car rental companies take a bond of some description off their customers. The larger companies will have a normal option of debiting your credit card immediately.

This is the first option, and then they will have various other excess/bond reduction options, which could reduce the bond to in some cases, to nil. Since not many people can afford to have the first bond option taken out of their holiday credit card account, it forces many people to take the excess reduction options, which could be around an extra $35 per day to reduce the excess to nil (the rental car company will have a maximum amount that you have to pay for long hires eg; 100 day hire would = $3500 at $35 per day but the companies maximum amount might be $1500). It is just a way for the rental company to earn extra money from the nervous driver. The car rental company will still hold a small bond to cover incidentals eg, the car returns full of fuel, in a clean and tidy condition. This is returned once the car is returned.

Smaller car rental companies usually have better first options for your bond or excess they can range from $750 to $3500 (the higher figure would be for drivers under 25) and most have bond reduction options available. The smaller companies usually do not reduce their excess to nil and $250 seems to be the lower bond options, this might cost around an extra $15 per day.

The smaller rental car companies also usually do not debit your card immediately, and will only debit should any accident take place.

Some companies have different levels of excess depending whether the accident is a “single vehicle accident” or an accident caused by reckless use of the vehicle by the driver.

Driving Licences:

New Zealand rental companies will usually accept full drivers licences from English speaking countries. You may need an international drivers licence if your countries drivers licence is not in English.

These rules are at the discretion of each rental company.

New Zealand Car Insurance:

In New Zealand car insurance in NOT compulsory so someone may hit you who is not insured this mean you lose your bond. The way most rental companies handle accidents like this is. You take down the information of the person who hits you and if the rental company recovers their money then you get your bond back.

Extra Driver Charges:

These seem to be a thing of the past and we have not discovered any car rental companies that still have this charge in place. If there were car rental companies still charging for an extra driver, they are the exception to the general rule.

Roadside Assistance:

All New Zealand car rental companies offer very good roadside assistance. This is usually through the New Zealand Automobile Association (AA) The AA is a great organisation who have agents all over NZ. All car rental companies receive the same service from the AA no matter how big the rental company is. The AA will come out to you assess your problem, fix it on the spot if possible or tow you for free to the nearest reputable service station, garage or agent that can fix your problem ASAP.

The larger car companies with branches all over NZ are able to offer the best vehicle replacement options with 24-hour phone assistance and this would be one of the reasons you would pay a higher rental fee. Sometimes the smaller companies cannot afford at the rates you are paying to have 24-hour phone assistance, but the AA does have a 24-hour toll free number. If the smaller car company cannot replace a car themselves, if something goes wrong, they will try to find you a new car from a different rental company. All accidents or damage must be reported to the car rental company as soon as realistically possible. But there is an exception to this rule. Most car rental companies will allow you to pay for repairs up to a certain amount without informing them. You must keep the receipts, and they will provide a refund

Refunds for breakdowns:

All car rental companies should refund monies for the rental cost of days off the road caused by vehicle mechanical breakdown.

It is that simple; they will not pay for, motel/hotel bills, the hiring of other vehicles or missed bookings or flights.

If you receive refunds for any other reasons you have found a great rental car company, then recommend them to your friends.

Quality of a Car Rental:

The standard in New Zealand of rental cars is very high with strict government guidelines in order for a vehicle to be given a rental certificate of fitness (COF). No car rental company wants you to breakdown on your journey this only costs the company money and “bad press”.

A good rule to use is the more your daily hire rate is the newer the rental car is. They are usually all set out in the same way and are all the same size for the same type of car (there are only so many ways a 5-door car can be set out).

Always remember if you are dealing with something mechanical things do break, no matter what the age.

Long Rental Discounts:

All rental car companies offer long rental period discounts.

Cancellation policies:

All New Zealand car rental companies have very strict cancellation policies. Make sure you have your correct dates. If you show you late you will still have to pay for the days you are late and if you don’t turn up at all expect the full amount of the rental to be debited to your credit card. By agreeing to the car company terms and conditions you give the company the authority to do this. If you return the car early do not expect a refund.

Credit Cards:

With all car rental companies you need a credit card to hold any bonds on.

Optional Extras:

There is only one rental company we can find that does not charge for extras such as mountain bikes, tents, TVs and other accessories to make your trip more enjoyable. You may be able to negotiate items for free if you are hiring for a long period of time.

Driving Fines:

These will be charged to your credit card on return from your trip.

Fuel:

All car rental companies will provide petrol/diesel. Return the car with the levels that they were provided to you at.

Road Restrictions:

All car rental companies have around 4 roads/areas that vehicles cannot drive on. You will not just stray onto these roads/areas, they are well sign posted.

Pick up and Drop off locations:

The bigger the car rental company the more options you will have. The smaller car rental companies may have better daily hire rates, that encourages you to organise your travel so you pick up and drop off to the same location.

One Way Hires:

Most car rental companies offer one-way hires. Some car rental companies charge one-way hire fees. These are normal as the cost of getting vehicle back from places is sometimes high. The larger rental car companies will give you better pick up and drop off locations.

Animals:

All car rental companies do not accept animals in their vehicles unless they are guide dogs.

General Rules:

All car companies have their vehicles as reliable as possible

In most cases the more you pay the later model vehicle you will get

No animals

Daily hire rates vary greatly

More personalised service from smaller companies

Bond/excess options vary greatly

Always turn up, avoid cancellations, get your dates right

Better back up vehicle replacement options from bigger companies

Avoid paying for extra drivers

Avoid paying for extra kms

Take windscreen, headlight and tyre insurance

Shop around

You can negotiate in the off season (New Zealand is booked up during summer)

Book early for the best deals in summer

Expect all NZ car companies to provide AA 24-hour roadside assistance

We’ve all been there – you’re heading out for a day of lawn work and your lawn mower won’t start. The big question before you now, should you try to fix the lawn mower yourself or should you call the experts? Here are a few scenarios to help you decide whether you should attempt the lawn mower repair at home or bring it to an authorized repair person.

My Lawn Mower Won’t Start

If your lawn mower will not start, check the gas tank first. Did you put the mower away for a long period of time without draining the gas tank? If so, you probably have a tank full of bad gas. Drain the tank and fill it with new gas. Check to make sure you have enough gas in the tank to get the mower running and that it is the correct kind of gas.

The Lawn Mower Starts Slowly, but Stops and becomes Difficult to Start

This is a pretty good sign that the engine is not getting enough air. Don’t worry, this is not going to require a costly lawn mower engine repair! Start by checking the air filter; a clogged or dirty filter can be cleaned with a little hot water and dish detergent. Simply scrub the filter and replace it.

You also may have a bad spark plug. The mower engine will not start up if the spark plug is bad or dirty. This fix may be as simple as pulling out the old spark plugs, cleaning them and replacing them.

My Lawn Mower Is Dead

Start by unplugging the spark plugs and turning the mower over. It is extremely important to make sure the mower is not able to start up while it is turned upside down. Check various mower parts, including the blades. You are looking for string, long grass, plastic or metal stuck between the blades, as any of these items will stop the blades from working and automatically incapacitate the mower.

Look in the gas tank, at the spark plugs and at the air filter. Make sure there is gas in the tank, the spark plugs are working and the air filter is clog free.

If the mower is still not working, take off the mower engine cover. Look at how the gas flows into the engine by removing the pump cover and pushing on the rubber pump. This will show you how gas is flowing into the engine and whether there are any problems with the hose. You may just need to take a clean rag and wipe down the hose or use a small pin to clean out the injector hole.

The last place to check is the automatic shut-off connected to the accelerator, as it may have lost a spring. Look for a metal line from the shut-off mechanism to the choke; you should see a small spring that attaches to the body of the lawn mower. If it fell off, you will see two small holes where the spring used to be. You can find a replacement spring at any hardware store.

These are all relatively easy repairs that you can make at home. The rule of thumb about calling an authorized repair person is you have reached a point in the project where you no longer feel comfortable doing it on your own. No matter when you reach this point, whether it comes after you checked the gas tank or after you take off the engine cover, it’s time to call a repair person.

Do not get in over your head in a repair project. When you are unsure of how to proceed but go ahead anyway, you can make the problem worse; and this only means a bigger repair bill!

If you’re not looking for a fulltime job, but has some extra time to spare, why don’t you spend it making money through part-time childcare jobs?

Yes, there may be a lot of part-time job options out there, so why should you choose a childcare job? Well, there are plenty of reasons for that.

Of course, a part-time childcare job will also give you access to all the usual benefits of any part-time job. It can get you that extra cash you need to buy those new pair of jeans you saw at the mall, or that new gadget you’ve been eyeing, or any other extra expenses that your basic income or your allowance just don’t cover. Aside from that, you can still keep your old job, or go to school, if you don’t have a shift. The flexible time of part-time job makes it a very useful way of spending time.

However, aside from these ordinary benefits, part-time jobs in the childcare industry are more beneficial than any other part-time job opportunity. Because of this, you can get a job at a childcare facility near your house, your primary workplace, or your school. This way, there will be no difficulty getting from one place to another.

Another reason is because childcare workers are receiving much recognition these days. Since the move to improve child care and education was initiated by the government, childcare workers can be sure of government support as they work towards a goal set by the government itself. Childcare workers can gain access to additional privileges because the childcare industry is at the center of attention these days. As a part-time childcare worker settles into the job and the industries, more options, some more longer-lasting, can be presented to the part-timer. It can then lead to a full-fledged career that the part-timer can eventually choose to take advantage of.

In addition, part-time childcare workers can also experience the benefits that fulltime workers enjoy. The joys of working with children, and of course, the fulfillment that comes from knowing you are contributing to a child’s growth and development, are also big bonuses. This is especially true for those who have a natural love for working with and handling children.

If you are planning to look for a part-time job, why don’t you consider one in the child care and education department? At the rate the industry is going, chances are that your part-time childcare job can lead you to a full-time career that you will definitely love! It’s pretty easy to find one, too.
